if you want political narrative rather than actual history, sure.

The 1970s saw the real effects of the imperial overhang no longer extisting (having vanished by the late 1960s), and Japan and Germany being back on the world stage stage. British industry was complacent at all levels (investment, management and labour) because of the circumstances that had existed until then.
