Well listen we have an act on at the Fairfield tonight and he plays one too, trouble is that his has been lost on luggage on his flight from the US. We really need to source one for his gig tonight, would you mind lending it to him...we will give you some tickets?"

BiL agrees, hands over the guitar at the stage door and sits down to watch Buddy Guy play the **** out of his Jaguar.

Goes back stage to retrieve the guitar, meets the.main man who grabs it and then signs the back of it to say thank you. BiL is not happy and gets it repeated.....years later, after kicking himself for years over his stupidity, he finds himself at Buddy Guys club in Chicago. He has a chat to the management (who turns out to be Buddys daughter) tells them this story. Within days he gets a signed photo from the man and a letter telling him not to erase this signature.

I treated myself to a new guitar toy, a Fender Mustang Micro headphone amp, which arrived yesterday. First impressions of it are good, lots of options but still easy to use. Much better than the VOX Amplug one I picked up (though twice the price). Charges up via USB-C, apparently you can also use this USB as an output for recording to your computer/tablet.

I will be getting a bass once my house purchase has complete, 12 years after having to sell my first and last. Idea is for a Dad's garage band with my brother-in-law, although neither of us have a garage.

Have been comparing semis (fnarr fnarr) for a while and I've narrowed it down to a Fender Coronado II (reissue) or a DeArmond Starfire - either of which will be secondhand. I have a few backup options if I have to go new, front runners are Hofner Verythin and Hagström Viking. Any other suggestions gratefully recieved - I'm really only looking at short scale, anywhere up to 32".

Will be stringing it with flats for that classic warm sound and like the look of the Fender Rumble Studio amp.

Can't really help you on the bass (I just use an Ibanez short scale most of the time), but have a Fender Rumble, which is pretty good for the money, and is a hell of a lot more house friendly than my TC Toneprint combo and my Trace Elliot head/Mesa Boogie cab set-up!

Thanks! Havent played em much in 3 years since my daughter was born but had a play today.. You never forget how to play generally but you do forget how to play songs you used to know and the rustiness is annoying, especially the right hand for me. But, man, the smell of them when you open that case as well as the sound is incredible.

I asked around some of the West End players and they all came up with the same answer.

And it’s arriving today!

I think the Mexican Fender Strat is a fine guitar.

It’s the P/J model with volume/blend; active EQ; mid range and sweep. Currently I only have a Fender practice amp so not a fair test, but I can get a lovely retro sound and a real twang/funky sound, but haven’t found a mid point yet. The EQ seems just a touch too sensitive. However, I think that this is more due to the limitations of the amp.

It plays really well. I have a Sire V& with flats and I thought that played well, but the Overwater is much better even with roundwounds.
