There were lots of Port Vale fans having beer in the town afterwards so I guess they didn’t think the town was too bad.

Sutton being a shithole & still being loads nicer than Stoke-on-Trent are not mutually exclusive points of view…

Just in from the Portsmouth game. Comprehensive victory over a poor Pompey side.

We just keep rolling along.

Another brilliant result, highlights seem to show Sutton very much the better team too. Annoying they are Away Saturday as I am off work, but hopefully another 3 points at Crawley, very pleasing to see.

Sutton seemed to have settled in well into league football now after a shaky start in the first few weeks, the win at Portsmouth will be a huge morale booster and in a very average Div2 promotion could well be a possibility this season.

It could happen. Often does with clubs coming up from the NL. I was thinking the other day though what would Sutton do about a ground if they got promoted to League 1. GGL as lovely as it is barely scrapped through to get into L2 and would need a lot of work done, a groundshare short term possibly, but longer term I'm not sure whether they club would be able to rebuild the ground, or have to look to build elsewhere.

Its an interesting question and one which would Im sure be resolved if it were to hopefully come true. I'm a local resident( I live near Sutton station) and the step up in league has bought a marked visible improvement in terms of interest in both the area and the club and one that previously did not have exist. I overlook The Old Bank pub by the station and the beer garden(at least)has been packed out on match day early Saturday afternoons when it previously wasn't very busy in the years - away fans mainly presumably. Also the town centre has been buzzing after games. Im sure they would find solutions as they did with the step up in terms of pitch improvements.

By 1 May in its first season as a Member of the Football League, the club is required to have a certified capacity of 5,000 which shall include at least 1000 seats (with the ability to be increased to 2,000).

By 1 May in its third season as a Member of the Football League, the club is required to have a certified capacity of 5,000 which shall include at least 2,000 seats.

By the end of their third season in the Football League the SGSA will require them to have brought any terracing up to the prescribed standard or take that terracing out of use which would therefore reduce the capacity of the ground.

It is pretty much irrelevant if Sutton are in L1 or L2 - the 2000 seats minimum kicks in at the 3 year point

I haven't been to Gander green lane for 20 years but isn't there still plenty of space for development on the rec side and the far end where the away fans are?

Went there for the Papa Johns Trophy game. In their favour, it's a spacious layout.

The away end is getting a new 280 capacity (or thereabouts) seated stand in addition to the existing terrace that holds circa 450 (currently there is a 'temporary' 100 seat stand in the away area)

Where they lose out a little bit in terms of capacity is that at each end, they are not allowed pitchside standing along the perimiter rail. Everyone has to be behind the first crush barrier - it's an EFL thing.

The obvious solution to get up to the required 2000 seats is to do something quite a bit bigger on the recreation ground side. Won't be cheap of course, so I'd imagine it will be a last minute job when they approach the 3 year mark in the EFL (all being well)

I was there on Saturday and looking around and thinking to myself it is a massive ground. In my opinion, definitely plenty of scope for development if need be at least in terms of land.

I agree the land is there. I just wondered if local residents on the two sorr of surrounded sides might cause issues with any upwards building in future.

I found it a bit weird at both the FLT game and the Carlisle game going to football with literally zero road traffic. Literally everyone walks or gets the train it seems.

The thought of Sutton United in League One is bewildering.

Sutton have sold over 500 tickets for tomorrow's away game against Crawley
