And sadly the left is failing and the “centrists” like Biden and Starmer are not only like rabbits in the headlights, but their politics actually end up fuelling the alt right as they are ultimately about protecting the rich and establishment. You can see this in the way that hate the left of their parties far more than the Tories/Republicans. Many of the labour right are friends with the tories as were the democrat leaders with Trump and other republicans before they lurched even further right.
Seems to happen most places but the Americans are particularly expert in pitting the working classes against each other on cultural issues in order to keep them from focussing on stuff that would change their lives.

Rather than actually helping the people the Dems will be praying Trump chucks his hat in the ring for the mid terms so they have a boogie man to frighten the base with.

Donald Trump loses the US election 2020

To show how bizarre the Republican Party is (probably driven by Trump-ites) they got enough signatures together (I believe it needed 1.5 million) to get a special election to recall our California Governor.

Although he is a Democrat, I didn't vote for him and he has made a couple for faux pas during the lock down, generally speaking I would say he has done as well as any Governor during this pandemic.

A couple of points really:

1) He was up for re-election next November anyway... God knows how much this special election is costing.

2) The Republican spear-heading this recall walks around with a brown bear as a symbol of California (There's one on the state flag)... it is not even a California brown bear apparently!

3) The Republican party have (I believe) in excess of 20 candidates on the ballot running against the Governor... Talk about split your own voter base!

4) To do this in the middle of a worsening pandemic when the Governor should be concentrating on governing is asinine.

We shall see how it pans out... at least we can vote by a mail in ballot.

We reference to the California recall election talked about above.

Headline in today's Los Angeles Times is "Newsom likely to keep his job new poll shows"...

Sub-headline is new poll shows 60% back the Governor.

I hate when the newspapers/media do this before an election, it should be banned. To me they are trying to influence the vote. It is hard enough to get people interested in voting in this sort of election, to make it out to be a forgone conclusion is doing nothing to get people to the ballot box.

I guess the best we can hope for is it stops voters from both sides from bothering.

If they were running a RINO (like Arnie was) they'd stand a good chance and probably end up running the Senate again due to Feinstein's age and declining health. But no they had to go for the radio show host Larry Elder who is a mentalist and its crazy he's gotten this close to such an important role.

Elder mentored Steven Miller (Trump's fire and brimstone immigration advisor) long before Trump was a politician and himself is a big fanboy of Jared Taylor (one of the "intellectual" white supremacists, he winds up on right wing Japanese YouTube a lot as his parents were missionaries here and hes fluent in the language as a result).

If Elder were white he'd have surely been run out of town by now, I can only imagine he retains bases of conservative black and Hispanic baby boomers (a larger voting group than imagined perhaps) and rural/suburban white culture war bores who will vote for him saying "he can't be a nazi, hes black!" as their defence.

I understand only one of the four most recent presidents will not be attending the 9/11 ceremony . Clue he said his buildings were among the highest in NY now that the Trade Center had gone.

I suspect he believes that he exists on a level above the Presidency, which is really just for mere politicians. Why would he choose to stand next to three of them and just look like an equal in a crowd, rather than make a point of standing out?

Trump has better things to do:

The former president is scheduled to do commentary for a boxing match between 58-year-old Evander Holyfield and 44-year-old Vitor Belfort at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida, on Saturday.

Much like Trump's Presidency, the fight didn't last one round!

Final results with a few votes left to count:
  • Recall Newsom: No - 65%
  • Recall Newsom: Yes - 35%
  • Leading Replacement Candidate (Elder): 45% of the Yes votes
  • Caitlyn Jenner (Formally Bruce Jenner): <1% of the Yes Votes
  • Cost of fiasco: >$300 Million

Good to see California remains the State of reason still, despite the abuse it receives. Newsom's COVID/vaccine/mandates handling was credited with his high vote. Common sense is alive and well in California.

And just think what could be done to help the homeless with $300 Million.

The squeaky wheel really needs to stop getting all the oil... at some time you just remove the wheel and put new one on that doesn't squeak.

Can I just ask why you felt it necessary to put “formerly Bruce Jenner”? Not having a go, but that’s not her name any more. Deadnaming is a real issue for transgender people and can cause a lot of anguish.

Just thought you should know.

I thought people in The UK would not know who Caitlyn Jenner was, but apparently I was wrong.

The person is a media jerk anyway you look at it, and her running for Governor was nothing more than a publicity stunt which typified this whole waste of California tax payers money (including mine).

As for using someones "previous" name, I am well aware of how it can be uncomfortable and embarrassing (to both parties to be honest). My wife's niece's son (can I say former daughter?) is transgender and has been through operations, hormone treatments and a name change. It took a while for family to get used to the new name, especially if it is not someone you see more than a few times a year. At first we made mistakes and he was cool with it... how could he not be? Today he is who is is, and his past life has been forgotten.

I digress...

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, she's a piece of shit. I was just curious as to why you did it. I tried to make sure it didn't sound like I was attacking you or anything like that, so sorry if it came across like that in any way.

Makes sense that some people wouldn't know who she is too. I sometimes forget that other aren't as "online" as I am haha.

No problem... its a subject that is pretty new to many of us old farts. It's tough to teach an old dog new tricks.
