High Score - Netflix Games Series

I'm part way into a new Netflix documentary series called, "High Score" which tracks the arcade and home gaming history from Pacman though to Doom.

Quote:
High Score is a documentary series about the golden age of video games, when legends – from Pac-Man to Doom – were brought to life. Through ingenuity and sheer force of will, computer pioneers and visionary artists from around the globe spawned the iconic worlds of Space Invaders, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, Madden NFL, and beyond. Without rules or roadmaps, players and innovators alike pushed the limits of money to be made, rivals to be crushed, and hearts to be won. This is the story of the brains behind the pixels and how their unmatched innovation built a multi-billion dollar industry – almost by accident.
It's really well made with great graphics and plenty of nostalgia. Recommended

Cheers for the recommendation. Will check that out.

Still baffles me why we haven’t got a regular games TV show, seeing as games have been bigger than the music industry for over 25 years !

Good point. There was Gamesmaster in the 90s, but no others I can think of.

Gaming is such a wide medium, it’s like having a tv programme around ‘music’. You aren’t going to be able to satisfy everyone.

There was Dara o Brian’s ‘go 8bit’ that was on Dave or such a while back but it wasn’t very good either. There’s so much content on the internet now that tv shows just seem a bit redundant.

I only watch BBC news on tv some mornings - and Judge Judy, lol. I suspect 80% of my viewing is YouTube

Watched the first two episodes tonight, really enjoyable. Not too heavy on the nerd stuff and doesn’t try to cover every single thing that went on. Loads of nostalgia in the Nintendo episode too, I wasn’t in America at the time but used to read lots of imported comics which had ads for all that stuff. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have started this tonight and, perhaps especially as a child who grew up the 80s, have really enjoyed the first episode. Lots of nostalgia and great to put faces to the names who bought about these games and technology. About to dive into episode 2.
