What is the fuss about Graham Potter?

Narrowly avoided the drop two seasons running, with a team that has the 10th highest net transfer spend in Europe over the last five years, and one home win in an entire calendar head.

Yes, the football might be pretty (if you donít mind watching sitters being missed every week) but the results have been poor by most standards. He looks like one of those managers who is clever but ineffective.

So why does everyone rave about him, and why is he amongst the favourites at Everton and Spurs?

It reminds me of when Brighton thought Buckley was better than Wilf?

Does anyone care?

Hope he buggers off to Everton and Howe gets the weed job.

The fun starts then!

Look at Brighton's seasons [or lack of] in the Premier League. Look at which seasons they have their highest points totals in. That will give you the answer.

Becaus he’s clearly decent. It’s not just about pretty football but creating chances and lots of them, and not giving away that many. The large number of goals they don’t score from the chances they create and the high number of goals the do concede given the low number of chances given up is not sustainable I’m worried they’ll actually be good if he stays so you have to want him to leave.

If brighton had a decent striker they'd be mid/upper table. potter is annoyingly good.

The last few times we’ve played them I’ve felt a degree of envy. I like the way they try to play football and they create a good amount and concede at a tight rate. As others have said, better finishing would have seen them finish top half last season. It’s a huge contrast to the passive nature of the vast majority of our performances these last two seasons and I know which type I’d rather watch.

Additionally, Pep rates him highly which says a lot.

If he is that good why hasn't he signed a decent striker?

Please don’t.

A manager who has consistently had them on the edge of the relegation zone.
A manager who looked to solve their scoring issues with Danny Wellback.
A manager who manages to lose games against their biggest rivals with only two shots on target.

Saying if he had a striker they’d be great is like saying if Majorca had a nuclear warhead they’d be a super power that Putin admires.

Talk about the award winning concourse the defending of the OG specialist, but Potter a football genius….please

A good manager/squad makes the team better than the sum of its parts. They've spent millions to make 4th from bottom their own. And given a couple of teams rolled over for them, in a normal year they'd have gone down to final couple of games.

Nobody really knows whether Potter is going to be a good manager. Just going with the wind, and at the moment he's flavour of the month.

I know they had a couple of very good wins last season, but this is also a team that didn't beat any of a pretty inept bottom 3 - 4 pts and 2 goals in 6 games against those teams.

Despite the better football (well it's really, pass, pass, pass, pass.......and no end product) they are no better off position wise, than when they sacked Hughton and that's having spent a sackload of money.

I saying that, he does come across pretty well in interviews but no Football genius, as said above.

Also - they seemed to play absolutely everyone this year without their key players. We had no Zaha at the Amex, Spurs with Kane - etc. Everyone had weakened teams.

If every team scored their sitters the league table would look different. Bright*n are no different to any other team. All ifs and buts..

They were a real outlier in quality of chances created versus goals scored. Some of that was Maupay, some of that was luck. As said above, it is unsustainable to keep missing chances at that rate, in the second half of the season they were more clinical than the first but still a long way off. When it starts to balance out we just have to hope that they stop creating that volume of chances.

I saw a funny thing the other day where a Brighton fan was legitimately talking up them getting top 6 next season. What the f*** are these crackhead on?

Stats don't always tell you the whole story. Otherwise Roy would have been tied down to a new contract 6 months ago to ward off interest from the big 6.

He is widely regarded as having a very bright future. There's no smoke without fire. He must have something.

You could argue yes if you really wanted to, but the manager is rarely in charge of transfers anymore at any club. He definitely doesn't have full control over transfers.
