All of this stems from player's wages and FIFA's total inability to put some sort of control on them and spending in general.

The likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid have been paying disgusting amounts of money to their "galacticos" for years now but it's simply been admired and even applauded without any independent regulation. Financially they were always the pinnacle and the rest of the football World has tried to compete with them, but now the wage/income has got out of control they are all panicking.

For thoase that read Harrypotter, hearing the big clubs renounce the Super League reminds me of the death eaters renouncing Voldermort who of course was seen as representing who they saw as the wizarding elite. Indeed taking the analogy further this is the moment the Malfoy and and all the others walk away at the end and the Big Picture was Voldemort's earlier defeat and the latest episode his renaissance /demise. I really hope this is the end and the last we shall hear of this

Exactly, Barnes trying to blame fans for that is ridiculous. The amount of football on TV before that happened was pathetic and things were always going to change regardless of which way it was done.

The PL distribution of TV money across the PL teams was and still is pretty well balanced, the problems lay in the regulation of owners and wage control.

I think scrapping the league cup may actually help the FA cup become more important again.

The erosion of the integrity of the Premier League moved quite gently for atleast a decade, a watershed moment was the purchase of Chelsea. Then the last 7-8 years it has sped up rapidly with all the foreign owners and massive TV deals. The PL is now in decline, they somehow got away with Project Big Picture but this has been a complete fiasco that has undermined the whole league, I cant really see a why back to be honest for these clubs, their reputations will be tarnished, do they even want to be here? How can we all pretend to forget when they these clubs or the media all start their PR machines again about these sides.

This is just another nail in the coffin of the dissatisfied supporter. Celebrity players, Simulation, Var, players earning more than small islands. Perez spoke about the young fans not watching (proof Perez?), but maybe this a result of the lack of care for the game and it’s supporters, being turned into a spectacle rather than a sport. Like WWE you can tune in and out and the roadshow keeps going banging the same drum. Every week a ‘Super Sunday’ somehow bigger than the last for the last 20 years, no wonder we have got bored. The game took itself far too seriously and it has paid the price. The humour has gone from the game it has been corporatised out if it, that is what made us feel a part of it and the game humble in the face of brilliance, it has lost it’s common touch and turned it’s lifeblood, the supporters, into a piece of old furniture that is in the way of it’s self serving lustful existance. What ever happened to ‘Who ate all the pies’? Or did it become who ate all the lies?

If young people aren't watching anymore then they should be working on making domestic leagues more interesting by creating parity. It's that simple.

Maybe they should reflect on cost. I have been posting on the 90/91thread. This week the season ticket prices were released for the following season. The Holmesdale Terrace Adult Price was 101. Now looking at inflation thats what 225 in todays money. 50% cheaper than any ticket next season.
Sure more comfort seated covered. But its pricing people out moving the prawn sandwiches ever more into yhe grounds. As a parent take say two kids to a game add travel food drink programme for many its too much out of the family budget. Even more so post Covid. Balance an afternoon at a game to buying a game on the latest game console.
As attendance at games falls so will interest being at game being taken to a game they were all rites of passage let alone first season ticket.
My first game opened a whole world of interest in football. But developed other parts of me. Going to school Library to read the quality papers football reports on a Monday or after a mid week game. Days of goal average certainly developed math skills. Ditching the Victor for Soccer Star opened a world of other clubs led into World Soccer. Racing and Football Outlook Football fixture book. All part of my childhood because i got to games. None would of made it without going.
Yet now unaffordable to many the interest drains. We have the Premier League the money rolling down the leagues in this country. What we need if interest is falling away is encouragement to get families into games cheaply affordable. Catch the audience young to retain the interest and seed the future. Gate reciepts are what less than 10% of turnover for us There has to be a way.

The only thing that will do that is for the Cup to be a route into Europe again.

Essentially I agree, but I think they would have a reasonable argument that having to compete with clubs who donít have to balance their books - like Chelsea or Man City - has led to this situation.

I don't think Chelsea or Man City have had any impact whatsoever on Barca or Real Madrid's inability to balance their books

If, as now being reported, these six will face no sanctions, penalties or points deductions of any kind, that gives them all the incentive they need to try this again a few years down the line.

It's a huge mistake imo.

I doubt they will get a fine or points deduction but, for the next few years at least, they hace lost their key negotiating card of a break away. Quite important i think.

And the lack of any sanctions is exactly why I've now wanted this to happen.
The elite in football, politics, society etc always get away with atrocious behaviour and there is never any come-back or punishment.
This should have gone ahead - chaos for a few weeks but it was bound to go wrong for them in the end. Sanctions would have happened, players etc would have walked, clubs would have gone to shit.
But now? nothing.
If anything they will get some concessions from UEFA and the PL.

It all collapsed far too soon, would have loved to hear their bullshit for another few weeks knowing full well it could never happen. Bottle jobs.

No. Pathetic and the 'not fair on the fans' excuse makes my blood boil, doesn't seem to be a problem when it's one of the smaller clubs, like us.
