Was watching West Ham v Norwich from 1975 on Big Match Revisited the other day and they were singing YNWA loudly. Its easy to forget that most clubs, including us, sang it in the 70s and 80s.

Never appealed to me as a kid in the Sixties, but seemed like a decent chap.

Yep. The next to achieve that feat wasn't until Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Funny Marsden connected story. School band of mine had a bunch of old equipment that had been gathering dust, damp and assorted creepy crawlies in a lock-up garage for years. The 'owner' of the gear was the uncle of a friend, who had been a road manager for the Pacemakers, and he gave it to us to use.
Dangerous as f*ck. Plenty of shocks from the microphones, and the Selmer Vanguard amp that I inherited was a death trap. After grumbling and sparking for a while, it finally burst into flames, probably in protest at my elementary guitar playing.
