I find him a very under-whelming player, as well. Has he ever got into the oppositions penalty box, had a shot, fired off a ranging and accurate cross field ball. Does he have any pace? But apparently he gets into the oppositions faces...

TBF I think he did set up a goal last season (can't remember where) with a tackle and forward pass, but is that enough?

Agree 100%. I genuinely think constant injuries have held back his ability. If he had stayed fit and got a good number of games then we might have seen a decent Ďdestroyerí in the middle of the park. Since heís been here all we have seen is him play 1 game then out for weeks injured & this is an ongoing cycle. In the 1 game we get itís just a bloke attempting to harass opposition players & pretty much zero influence on our team.

No way we should consider keeping Clyne. The RB position has been neglected since we got promoted & needs to be properly addressed this summer with a new long term healthy starter.
That's right. Whether PVA or even Benteke will sign is another matter but, other than the ones you've mentioned, the rest can go.

I appreciate this thread has been about the senior players out of contract, however I’m fairly certain that next season the following players count as over 21 so would have to be considered for the squad if they are at the club at the end of August:

Bryon
Tavares
Hobbs
Rich-Baghuelou
Flanagan

I was wondering if anyone of them are likely to stay on - does any one have any idea? Considering Roy didn’t put any of them on the bench when we were short earlier this year, probably answers my question (Tavares was not out on loan at the time), however with potentially a new manager coming in, I was wondering if that might change. Dreher and Woods need to be considered too.

Flanagan seems to have dropped off the radar - is he injured (he’s still on the official club website as being our player)? And Bryon doesn’t seem to get a look in either so I assume they’re off.

Yes. Exactly the same as you, but PVA wonít sign. And Iíd have Schlupp as first choice if we switch to 3-5-2/3-4-3 with wing backs.

Yes, thatís how I see it too. Itís a damning indictment of our powderpuff midfield that McCarthy is held in such high regard.

As the season progresses it becomes even more obvious who should stay and who should go.

Ward: STAY
Dann: GO
Benteke: STAY (3 year deal)

Benteke holds the ball up like it’s nobody’s business and brings our flair players into the game. For all his faults over the past few years he’s finishing this season on a real high and if he can serve up these performances next season we’ll all be thankful we extended his deal.

Let everyone go bar Benteke. Re-sign Ward or Clyne for cover.

3 years would be reckless, but it makes complete sense keeping him for another season on a fair wage. If we don't buy Bats and let Tekkers go we'd have to spend a huge part of our budget, whatever that may be, in replacing two of the most expensive positions. We need two centre-backs, possibly two centre mids, a right-winger and probably a left-back.

Where's all this money coming from?

Good bye:

Hennessy - Shit
Clyne - Not required on high wages
Sahko - Soldier on
PVA - Defensive mess
Dann - Too old, good servant
Townsend - No pace
Wickham - Stealing a living as a footballer, shame
McCarthy - Too injury prone
Bats - Meh, not the player for us we need.

Keep:

Henderson - third choice
Benteke - best striker at club
Ward - Still performs to the best of his ability
Cahill - Has done ok, but old and injury prone - needs to be third choice now

Hennessey - should be released. Has been a good servant and I suspect he wants first-team football to keep his Wales #1 spot. Good enough to be a top Championship keeper.
Henderson - If he's happy to and presumably doesn't cost much he can stay. Unless we have someone else lined up, such as an experienced pro wanting to do coaching badges whilst benchwarming.

Clyne - Leave. Ferguson (or a new player) should be #1
Ward - Keep. Excellent servant to club and always reliable. However, should not be first choice, but would be excellent backup.
Van Aanholt - A bit torn on this. Would like to keep him, but suspect he wants a last final payday. We should not be the ones to give him that.

Sakho - Leave
Cahill - Keep. Would be a great role model for the new younger Centre Backs we painfully obviously require.
Dann - Leave (reluctantly)

McCarthy - Leave. We need a higher quality centre mid, with Jairo/MacArthur as backup.
Townsend - Keep (but wouldn;t be upset if left). He's a good player and an option off the bench. Him and Ayew need replacing with new RW/RF.

Benteke - Only keep if willing to take a wage cut. Should become a backup striker used to hold on to leads and/or for a last throw of the dice when chasing games.
Wickham - Leave. Even if fit, he needs to start afresh.
Bats - No point renewing. Need to use our loan slots on players who will start 75%+ of matches.

We clearly need to bring in 1xCB / 1xCM / 1xRW / 1xCF and possibly an extra CB, RB and LB
