Treated the same as Russians, and all other third countries. The laws existed before the UK left. Which is Spains sovereign right.
They are being treated as non Europeans, because they/you now are.

They wanted it, they voted for it, they live with it.

Like Steve Shovlar the art dealer, I buy and sell high end motor racing books through Catawiki (albeit as a collector, not as a business) and completely concur with his description of the situation. Before Brexit I would simply address and post to Europe and a parcel would inevitably arrive within three days. Not any more though...

I sold a lot of three books to Spain at the beginning of January and first had to grapple with all the paperwork now involved (not easily understood) before sending them. After two and a half months they were returned to me as "undeliverable" after lots of chasing and raising a lost parcel investigation and I then had to re-send them at my cost with a different courier. They finally arrived last week although the buyer had to pay import duty a second time - having been charged he had to reclaim this for the first aborted delivery. For me it's an inconvenience but for a business it must be crippling.

Brexit - what a shitshow.

Who'd have thought that unravelling forty plus years of legal entanglement and provisioning around trade between up to 28 different nations would be so much more difficult than stomping around shouting 'Rule Britannia', quipping about 'Oven Ready Deals' and sharing jingoistic xenophobic nationalist Facebook posts (and weirdly anti-immigration ones).

There's a lot of things about the EU I don't like, its ability to produce systems of control, functional bureaucracy and organisation around trade is second to none.

So far despite all the doom mongers UK society has not collapsed the £ & the markets are doing ok and business between the UK & the the EU are returning to pre Brexit levels despite Covid. While I am realistic that it is early days however long term signs are encouraging. Time to debate the failure or success of Brexit surely is 5/10:years from now not at present while the dust is settling & Covid is the main focus.

Trade to the EU down by 12.5% Feb 2021 compare to Feb 2020. Oddly the headlines in the usual papers would have you believe that exports are booming.

It may well be a continuing trend but real position wont be known for months yet. Covid and pre 31/12/20 stockpiling is skewing the year on year stats. No doubt the extra paperwork is currently a pain in the backside for some companies - question is whether it gets simplified and/or everyone just gets used to it.

I would say we’ve got used to the paperwork (at my business), but the extra time and cost passing customs is going to be a drag on trade, and more so in perishables, of course. It inevitably means we sell fewer records coming from the Uk in Spain, and vice versa, and jobs will move from the UK to the mainland in music distribution.
Let’s not kid ourselves that this isn’t going to happen and affect the economy for the worse - all projections have recognised this for several years, the decision was taken that this was a sacrifice worth making.

It’s an exercise in mathematics, which is clearly
Beyond the press. In Jan exports down 40%, in Feb exports up 47%.

If you start with 100 and lose 40 you only have 60. 60 increased by 47% is 88.2.

Press see the 47%. Everything is awesome etc. But you’re down 11% on what you started with
