The story mode on GTA 5 is so absorbing, you end up caring about the characters even though they're ruthless criminals

Haven't played it in years but GTA online has taken a large part of life I'll never get back.

Is there an age limit when games start to lose their appeal?

I play older games anyway. Before GTA V Id played Dishonoured, Deus Ex Mankind Divided, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age (the first one).

But I tried to start Fallout New Vegas and just couldn’t get into it, despite loving Fallout 3. What year is the cut off point before which games just seem too dated, or does it really depend?

Thinking about this as I pursue the Xbox Easter sale

New Vegas and Fallout 3 are just very, very different. The former is a much more traditional fallout game, and the latter more like Oblivion with guns, due to being developed by Bethesda. So not necessarily a problem of being dated.

I didn’t get far enough into it to tell. Enjoyed Oblivion back in the day though.

I’m not a graphics fiend (happy to still play 360 games), but some games do seem to feel too dated to play now, despite being great at the time.

Am considering buying Skyrim which is on discount

Trust me, there’s a huge section of the Fallout fan base who hate 3 for not being Fallout enough (and hate Bethesda for creating it), and love New Vegas because it’s more true to series. Both good games imo, but very easy to like one and not the other, as they are so different. 3 is much more open world, in the style of Bethesda’s other creations like Oblivion. New Vegas is more story driven, linear and much less post apocalyptic, which is how the old Fallout games were.

Skyrim eh? That’d be a trip down memory lane, I’m tempted

Managed to muster the enthusiasm to start up The Witcher 3 again after seeing the list of mods available. Put it down 5 years ago and couldn't be arsed to get back into it (the story is quite heavy) .

Played it last year. Amazing game. Possibly the best. Was quite hard to find something else to get into afterwards.

It really is staggering just how deep this game is. 40 hours in and Iíve only just set sail for the Skellige Isles, and Iíve still so much yet to do back on Velen/Novigrad. Purchased the two DLCís which Iíve read contain at least another 30hrs!!

The game is just insane. An absolute masterpiece from CDPR.

The DLCs are brilliant. You can play Hearts of Stone before you finish the main game or after. But Blood and Wine is the one to finish on.

It's a postscript, and just a lovely ending to an amazing game. I was sad when it was over. Though **** sailing round Skellige to find every marker Took me months to play it all. On the other hand just played and finished Arkham Asylum over the last week. Compact but really fun.

Games for the lockdown.

Changed things up a bit by installing some of the mods. The 4K retexture looks magnificent, coupled with grass retextures and 4K monsters textures it is still one of the best looking games out there.

Iíve added auto loot which is excellent but a bit of a cheat, it loots everything you tell it to (by way of an in game menu) in a radius that you set. Also added a mod that ups the gore. Itís excellent. Heads, limbs and torso flying all over the place.

Iíll follow your path on the DLCís then. Sounds like a good plan. See you in a few months

I miss modding. I'm just an Xbox gamer these days. Inferior in every way except convenience

Crash Team Racing (remastered) is superb. I must've spent 30+ hours on time trials alone

A fairly niche game but Total Extreme Wrestling is out this time next week (the demo was out today), it's a game where you play as a wrestling booker.

I played Arkham Knight last weekend, really enjoyed the main story but like most open world games I don't see much point going beyond the main quests to do many of the side quests
