Southampton

Can I suggest anyone who says no point, Roy will pick xyz anyway gets negged by everyone? It's for suggestions, not predictions...

Cahill shouldn't play 2 in row unless there is a big gap and Tomkins should be back now. I know Luka is improving but unless we've already decided McCarthy isn't being extended let's see what he can do. I don't think Wilf was as bad as some suggested last week so he starts for me. I also don't think Benteke was as good as some suggested. He's done enough for an extension on reasonable terms but let's see what Mateta can do. Ward playing well but give him a rest and see if Clyne deserves an extension.

Guaita

Clyne Tomkins Kouyate Mitchell

Jairo (unless McArthur fit) McCarthy Eze

Schlupp Mateta Wilf

As we are safe, we should give Kelly a game.

Also a couple of the under 23and 18’s need to be on the bench. Time to drop the players who are leaving when their contracts expire and give youth a chance

I just want to see some of our youngsters given chances on the bench. The U23s and U18s have had great seasons, some of those players surely have futures with us, and what better way to end their season than by giving them a taste of the first team in a completely safe pressure-free environment.

We arent going to be making changes unless it is necessary due to any injuries and rightly so, the Sheffield game was the one true winnable side left this season to play that offered us the chance of 3 points and to gain a very respectable points tally, and we took it.
Yes it would be good to introduce "fringe" players but i think Roy will stick and try and get as many points as we can and end the season with maybe another win or Two, who would truly complain that it is the wrong approach? I would say the one player if fit i would like to see is Tomkins so as to help gauge next seasons centre back planning.

It would be on one level but Mateta needs a chance and the more he adapts to the league now the better it will be for next season. My concern is that Hodgson couldnít care two hoots about what happens next season so heís unlikely to play mateta or anyone else that isnít in his core group. Wasted opportunity if we donít experiment a bit.

Barring new injuries I don't think Roy will change the Sheffield players. So:

-------------Schlupp----------------------Luka--------------------Eze-----------------

---------Townsend------------------Benteke---------------Zaha------------------

He couldnít care two hoots, and even if he was here next season he clearly is one he doesnít fancy.

Schlupp is still being eased back into games so suspect Riedewald may start for this one.
Maybe Clyne and Tomkins make the bench. Otherwise, can 't see many changes.

mostly the same team but given its 5 games in 2 weeks we could consider:

obviously Jimmy in if fit but not hearing a word on him makes me wonder if we'll see him this season.

tomkins in for cahill and the 2 can alternate next kouyate for the rest of the season given the games every few days

Butland in for for a couple of games

mateta to get some time off the bench if he and benteke likely to stay or starts if we think benteke is leaving

I almost wish we had 6+ points between us and the places above and below, because we could play the kids and the fringe first team players who we need to assess our continuing with in some form or another, given the huge decisions now inevitably upon us.

But the other side of the coin says we have at least +/-2 places up for grabs and doesn't that equal a swing of eight million? There's a strong argument that we need to maximize our final payout for badly needed spending this summer and that eight million could make a real difference somewhere.

I hate it but feel we need to play our best team. Of course, Roy may not decide that's the same eleven as the last match but he will probably want to go for the points and pounds, accepting that we won't get to learn much about fringe / younger players.

The one player who, IMHO, should get another run out is Mitchell. PVA has basically made it impossible to want to keep him, given his performances, age and demands. Let's give Mitchell all the experience he can get. We may have no choice but make him first choice LB, in order to spend elsewhere.

I completely agree with these sentiments, however we have to be aware that the U23 has a game coming up for the play offs to be promoted and the U18 may potentially have a game to get into Europe their respective age group.

These games won't be this week as both the leagues are yet to conclude, so there might be a chance to squeeze them in for this game. But Hodgson has shown a reluctance because of his 'inflated' squad. I would say trust in the process, I would like to think there's a plan to try and integrate these young players in due course.

Guaita
Ward - Kouyate - Cahill - Mitchell
Milivojevic
Eze - Schlupp
Ayew - Benteke - Zaha

If you wanted to find a place bench for the young players in place of players whose contracts are definitely expiring, and therefore leaving, potentially:

Butland, Kelly, Tomkins, Hannam(Adaramola), Riedewald, Wells-Morrison, Raky-Sakyi, Batshuayi, Mateta

We definitely need to rotate with the schedule we have coming up, everything depends on the fitness of the players and who is and isn't carrying knocks.

I would imagine we will want to use Butland, Riedewald, Ayew, Mateta or Batshuyai, Clyne, Dann, Mccarthy, PVA and maybe even Kelly over the next few games at some points Tomkins and Macarthur too if fit

I’d like us to rotate a few to see how our back up options are. Butland, Clyne, Kelly, Mateta, McCarthy to come in. Give some youngsters some game time as well.
