Yes they can but it takes a big chunk out of their budget. The "reported" contract is £15m per season and there is no break-out clause so they have to pay the remaining balance if they pull the trigger.

He is contracted until the end of June 2023 (so, if they were to sack him in the Summer it would be £30m)

While that is a big chunk of money in the short-term if they were to get into the Champions League Quarter-Finals, winning three group games and drawing three group games they would receive roughly £25m and each Premier League spot is worth about £5m so finishing 7th and not 4th could easily add on another £15m making it £40m in total.

Parish is normally very thorough in these situations. Think we’re interviewing all likely candidates. Could also be a situation where our number one target is still undecided so we’re just sounding out possible plan B’s.

Interesting times innit?

Of course this couldn't happen as I would imagine Roy might consider it a bit of an insult given his history in the game. It would make for a good handover though and probably be helpful for a promising but more novice manager in Lampard.
According to the Transfer Window podcast we are looking at both Dyche and Lampard. Mentioned the stuff about Steve wanting more use of younger players and academy grads. One thing I hadn't heard was that the club were apparently seriously considering a change last summer to the point where Roy had asked his agent to sound out other clubs.

Based on Roy's insistence on using older experienced players this season again they thought SP is unlikely to want to keep Roy on as he does want to change the type of football we play and age profile while Roy isn't showing any inclination to change.

That said renewing Joel and Dann flys in the face of that statement. JW I can understand but SD?!?!?

I know there are low standards / morals in Football but i just do not see SP interviewing potential candidates without informing RH that he will not be extending his contract . So either Roy knows he is leaving or SP has not made a decision on him yet .

This is what worries me slightly, we went through a thorough, rigorous process before that took way too long, and we ended up getting it badly wrong with de Boer.

It also came out in hindsight that he wasn't even particularly well-liked at Ajax... so I'm not sure how much due diligence we did in all that time.

The better appointments have tended to happen when time and pressure sharpen the mind.

The fact the list of names seems to keep growing doesn't suggest a) it's getting any closer or b) we had a plan all along.

This is promising as we have a great catchment area. Seeing many young players leaving to go and play in Germany suggests the balance isn't working here if you want to progress your career and make it as a first team player. The club have tried to be ambitious in the transfer market and ended up overpaying for players who are now on relatively larger wages. Investing in young players whose value is only going to increase and demand smaller wages is a much more sustainable model. From the sounds of what you have listened to, Roy isn't going to adopt that model and therefor we should look elsewhere.

Surely with Mitchell, Eze and to a lesser extent Jairo, he has used more young players this season. Who else do we have that Parish would think Roy should have been playing? Ferguson? I'm sure Roy would have liked to have him available at some point too.

If it is true I suspect it’s probably to do with working with recruitment. Young players signed like Meyer, Sorloth and Mateta more recently. Jairo has been played when injuries have forced it, if McArthur was fit he wouldn’t be playing. Eze turned up full of confidence and looked great first half of the season but has been going backwards recently. It’s not fair to put all this on Roy, legitimate arguments can be debated over the players quality.

However, I do think the integration of signings without premier league experience has been the weakest spot of Roy’s reign (other than entertainment in last 18 months). That why I don’t think he is the right choice if we are going to do a rebuild this summer. If we are going to renew most of the contracts and try to grind out another season then he probably should stay but I don't think that’s the plan

I guess SP doesn't want to jeopardize season ticket sales by releasing a statement to this effect too early

Doesn’t make much sense does it. Not sure who was supposed to have said it but I don’t think it tallies with the reality of the squad. There are no younger players that deserve to have played more often. TbH there is more likely a good argument to give Ebs and Jairo a rest. Tyrick is probably just about ready to start when required now. Mateta starting would be a bit of a stretch right now I would say. But it fits the preferred tune I guess,
