Sources: Parish plan for Crystal Palace revealed and this is what it means for Celtic appointment

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has targeted Eddie Howe as he wants to change the mindset of the dressing room and play more a more expansive style, Football Insider has learned.

The former Bournemouth boss is on a three-man Palace shortlist and has held discussions with Palace about succeeding Roy Hodgson.

A Palace source has told Football Insider that Parish is leading the search for a potential successor to Hodgson and believes Howe has a lot to offer.

The chairman admires Hodgson’s skill in comfortably guiding Palace to mid-table safety in four consecutive seasons.

But he wants to alter the mindset of players fixed on playing one way, tweak the system and implement a more attractive playing style.

Parish believes that Howe could be the man to do both those things and that’s why he’s on his three-man shortlist along with Burnley boss Sean Dyche and Frank Lampard.

Dyche, who is the leading contender along with Howe, is regarded as a very safe pair of hands with many similar attributes to Hodgson.

Celtic have been caught in the middle of the Palace manager search, with in-demand Howe also a possible target for Brighton, with Graham Potter’s position by no means secure.

It is understood Howe reached a verbal agreement with Celtic following talks in London but has since had second thoughts.

With Howe’s representative stating he will not return to management until the summer, Celtic have approached former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre as an alternative option.

Top clubs north and south of the border are lining up their options as the managerial merry-go-round prepares to go into full swing at the end of the season.

Dear me, what a load of shit.

Palace source reveals Parish is leading the search - well I never! But he's also trying to personally alter the mindset of the players.

Yep, Ipswich, brum and the weed wiped tge floor with us. We went from automatic certs to relying on a last minute goal to scrape into the play offs.

Seriously? We were in 4th place after 11 games when Dougie left... and therefore we were "automatic certs"? Laughable.

Maybe and then he sorted things out and did a great job in the play-offs.

Not the best manager we've ever had but deserves some credit.

I don't dispute that he had some motivational skills, but we were in danger of missing out entirely until he reverted to the style that had put us in contention in the first place.

Stalled is an understatement. We won 1 of the last 13, on the last day of the season, in the last minute, losing 4-0 to Birmingham, 3-0 to Brighton and 3-0 to Ipswich in that run. We then won 1 of the first 8 in the Premier League.

He has just left Grimsby and they have improved dramatically since he left.

Passing backwards as they go, although Andros does that anyway, VG has to be alert.

The away record under Holloway was appalling.

Won his first away at P'Boro but after that, 1 away win for the rest of the C'Ship season and that was only because Derby missed a last minute pen.

Tbf he did well when it really mattered (Play Offs) but overall he was a poor Manager for us.

We averaged 1.92 points per game prior to Holloway starting and 1.41 from his first match . Forgot that we only got one win in the last ten games of the season .

Holloway was clearly out of his depth once we got in the PL.

He managed us superbly through the play offs. Everything else was average.

My memory on it is a bit hazy but remember we had a shit load of points already on the board at some point where we was all but guaranteed a play off place, despite the poor run of form in about the last 10 or so games which resembled relegation form.

Holloway definitely did try and tweak our style at some point to iirc to a more possession base style as opposed to the quick counter style which was proving successful. He finally reverted back for the play offs and hey presto. I remember the Peterborough away game. Saw slight changes then and was a goal down iirc. Remember the last 30 minutes we changed to quick counter style and absolutely destroyed them coming back to win. We definitely went top that night as never forget the atmosphere in the away end.

We were flying when he took over, absolutely flying and he lef alone to begin with but as soon as he started tweaking things we got worse and worse and only just scrapped into the play offs.

I reckon if Dougie had stayed we would have got into the play offs super easily probably coming 3rd or 4th.

However, Holloway's experience in the play offs was critical. He got it completely right, for those three key games I will always be grateful.

I am not sure Dougie would have got us up
