Burning DVD's

Hoping someone can help as i'm a bit thick with these things
I have just had some old slides put onto DVD. The DVD disc is a -R. The DVD plays ok via a DVD player but when I burned a copy onto a blank DVD it comes up with disc error via the DVD player but is ok via a laptop. The disc I burned to is a DVD+R DL. Anyone able to advise why the disc I burned to does not play via the DVD player?

I don't reckon Murray will cut it at this level and you will soon see how slow he really is. This is a to bigger step up for him i reckon"

when burning the disc did you go through the option of 'finalising' the disc at the end of the burning process? This is an option to close the disc for playing back or leaving it open so you can add more files although in the still writable state it will not play on DVD players. Even when finalised I found some players still didn't like burnt DVD-R discs.

It's been a long time since I messed around with this kind of stuff... not all home DVD players will understand / play a standard DVD? Is there an option when you burn it to say that it is a 'photo DVD' or similar? Is your DVD player old? Can you do a straight DVD copy onto a DVD -R rather than a +R DL? Does the original -R play in your DVD player?

Can you copy them onto a USB stick and put that into the back of your TV instead?

Yes DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) may not not be compatible with older DVD layers. As WFOW says try the more standard DVD-R discs (not RW) closing the burned disc by finalising. A memory stick is a very good idea as most larger TVs will accept memory sticks for picture play back (my ten year old Samsung does) just check the stick is formatted before loading the pics on it (most TVs will do this for you) and the pictures are of a compatible format to be played.

I think some on here would be surprised how much business is still done on old tech, usually emulated on newr kit and how much money is made by doing this.
