Bands who became their own tribute band

Just thinking about it and Queen and The Who spring to mind.

Pack it in lads!

Maybe The Beach Boys. They played in Stamford about 10 years ago and Mike Love was the only original member. He didn’t do much and all the other band members were better than the original guys would have been considering their age.It was a great night….

Wishbone Ash too.

Thin Liizzy's Scott Gorham tried to carry on but in the end had the good grace to pack it in.

Sugababes. Gradually replaced each member of the band until the lineup was completely different to when they started but were still doing the same songs. Like Trigger’s broom.

ELO (or rather Jeff Lynnes ELO). Mind you, that hasn't stopped me seeing them twice.

In Chile there is a very famous and popular Latin American folk band called Inti Illimani formed in 1967 and became synonymous with the pre-dictatorship Allende govt and subsequently with resistance against Pinochet.
A few years ago the remaining members of the band split (I think you just have to own an Inti vinyl record to become a member - Wiki lists around 20 individuals who have been members of the band at some time) into Inti Illimani histórico and Inti Illimani Nuevo.
At any given weekend (pre covid) there is a reincarnation playing somewhere.

Talking of the Allende government, how is September 11th in Chile these days? When I was there in 2003 people were recommending that as tourists it might be wise to be somewhere other than Santiago on that date. I think we went down to Peurto Montt or Chiloé in the end, though that was what we had already planned to do.

It’s still not a happy date although any protests or disruptions seem to be less and less numerous.

Not really. Once Roy Wood went ELO was always mostly JL, with help from Mik Kaminski and Richard Tandy. Tandy was due to tour but fell ill. But it was pretty much always mainly Jeff Lynne.

Just got an email advertising a gig by Glenn Miller's band!

He's been dead for over 70 years!
