Ivan Toney
I see the other Toney thread is closed for some reason but Sky are reporting 4 Premier League clubs, plus Celtic, are looking at him in addition to Brentford. Given the previous speculation, and the sort of players we are looking at, I would be surprised if we aren’t looking at him?

Beware Peterborough selling strikers.
They have sold a lot of them for lots of money and I cannot think of 1 who has made it as a Premier League regular. They bought Toney 12 months ago for £650k. Jack Marriott to Derby £3m - scored 9 goals in 2 years, only had him 1 season having spent £450k Conor Washington to QPR £3m - just moved to Charlton with Hearts and Sheff Utd in the middle scored 16 goals in 4.5 years since the move Britt Assombalongs to Forest for £6.25m - done ok, a 14/15 goal a season championship striker Dwight Gayle to us £5m - probably best of the lot, prolific in championship but hasn't held a place at any PL club. Peterborough set up knowing that strikers sell for the most money, they play to score goals (League 1 top scorers) and then sell their strikers for big money but none have yet made it at the level we are. Newcastle didn't think he was PL quality 12 months ago either. Would be a big risk IMO. |

You can go back to Mackail-Smith, close to 1 in 2 for Posh, 1 in 6 for Brighton, and Aaron McLean, close to 1 in 2 for Posh, then 1 in 7 for Hull.
Fry on Sky quoting £10m plus add ons for Toney.

Also don't forget Craig Mackail Smith who they flogged for 3.25 million to the tesco bag brigade (when that was serious budget)

Fry saying 8 clubs interested, 4 from the PL, 3 bids they have rejected, plus Toney supposedly rejected Brentford. The rumoured interest from Celtic suggests Edouard replacement?

My mates a huge P’boro fan and said he’s not PL level yet. Needs a year or two in the champ. Has the build but expects him to go the champ. We all knew money talks.

If we sign this Toney guy for big money (Peterboro always get big money) then I'll be massively underwhelmed.
Same goes for the Brentford guy. In league 1 he's doing well with one touch finishes in the 6 yard box. He simply won't get those chances in the Prem, for Palace. We need a striker who is a focal point, can play alone when well marked & with great interplay, who then can take reasonable chances when the eventually come. A new Glenn Murray basically. Ayew does it really well. Benteke would too if his confidence was so mentally gone. We should get someone from Portugal, France, Poland or somewhere, plus a low fee punt on someone with potential from a lower league. Ayew has been pushed too hard, he needs a relief in the squad else he'll get an attrition injury like Murray did in 2013. Last edited by cockles; 18-08-2020 at 09:35 PM. |

It's not Ivan Toney we are interested in
Newly promoted Fulham and Crystal Palace are interested in Peterborough's Ivorian forward Siriki Dembele, 23

Our approach to transfers is to identify five players for each specific position and to pursue talks / negotiations in parallel.
