Ouch! Who can bear to talk about the Leicester game?

Yes, another painful early exit. FA Cup just meant so much in those days, and the last thing you wanted as a top flight side was to bow out against lower league opponents. Compared to the following season’s exit at Hartlepool, this wasn’t too bad mind.

It’s funny; it’s almost as if we paid some karmic debt for reaching the cup final with years of cup misery. We were knocked out at the first hurdle (3rd rd) in 6 of the 7 seasons following that famous 1990 Wembley cup final. The anomaly being the semi we lost to Man U in ‘95.

I’ve been doing a little Palace history video project (that might see the light of day at some point), looking at each decade from the 60’s onwards. The 90’s for us was far and away the most crazy, jam packed event filled, rollercoaster decade of them all.

Reading those articles is very interesting. Noades critising fans for not turning up for the Forest game saying we can kept keep our best players on those gates then goes and takes a huge loss on both Bodin and Gabbiadini within a few weeks. Big signs that the wheels had fallen off and we were heading south.

Going back to the Leicester cup win.....there was'nt the money around for players in those days and our goalscorer is still working for a living.

Looking at that line up, you can start to see the team evolving into the side which went up in 1994. Sad how quickly that team broke up after finishing third. Truly my favourite era supporting the club.

Never realised how much we lost on Bodin. Honestly thought it was 'only' £50000. Absolute shocker. Why did we sell him so cheaply?

He couldn't have become 40% of his spring value in the space of 7 months surely.

Because we didn't want to pay the appearance based extra fee.

It's strange that in my mind I remember him as being a Palace player when he missed the crucial penalty which would (might) have sent Wales to the 1994 World Cup, but of course he'd left us by then.
