Teams can be successful with this model. Call me an optimist but I truly believe we are gonna win a cup or qualify for Europe in the next 5 years. Ambitious players chase projects and titles rather than money. If we cant get titles offer projects instead.

I mean... they are only asking Newcastle for that.

Just about fine with this as long as we get a couple who are loyal and stick around. Just some players that we can have a connection with for longer than 5 minutes
this kind of thing is probably most likely to come from academy players isn't it? even then, AWB went after his first full season... |

I can't think of too many players in the recent past that have left Palace thinking they were above Palace... maybe Bolasie and of course Bostock. Not sure whether to include AWB, as the Wankers came in for him rather than him wanting out.

How many can we afford to lose in any one window? Next summer, for instance, we could very well be looking at losing Zaha, Olise and Guehi.

Lets worry about this year first ..

We don't need to sell Guehi next summer. Depending on the release clause thing, we don't need to sell Olise either. Parish has already shown he won't be bullied into selling players.

Who in the last 10 years have we lost, that we wanted to keep. The AWB deal was silly money, no club our size would of turned it down.

Cabaye probably, albeit out of contract rather then sold

Whilst I fully understand that it’s a sensible financial approach to surviving in the EPL, the thought of consistently losing our best upcoming players depresses me massively. Be honest, It’s just shit.

Various clubs have tried but we are probably well-positioned to make it work with our location and the new academy. It's not great to be a feeder club for the big six but we can have a lot of fun along the way with some great talents coming in and being developed here. We may even pick up the odd trophy along the way if we go for it.

I understand what you mean but it's the definition of success that is subjective.

We have to be realistic, top players are ambitious and want to win things, it's just a fact we have to accept.
I'm optimistic though, buying top young players and bringing kids through the academy and playing attractive football is good enough for me. Actually winning things is becoming increasingly difficult but it's never impossible, getting into Europe is doable, I'd settle for that.

That’s one of the issues, we’d need to keep Parish or have another chairman who is passionate about the club being successful, rather than just the balance sheet. |
